Sample phone call when booking a repair

An example of how to ask the right questions when you call. Change the details to fit your home.

You: Hi, my air conditioner is running but blowing warm air. What is your service-call fee and your diagnostic fee?

Dispatcher: The service call is a set fee, and the diagnosis is included in that.

You: If I approve the repair, is that fee credited toward it?

Dispatcher: Yes, it is credited.

You: Do you use flat-rate pricing or hourly?

Dispatcher: We use a flat-rate price book.

You: Great. Please ask the technician to give me the diagnosis and a written price before starting any repair. I want to approve each step.

Dispatcher: I will add that to the work order.

You: Is the technician EPA 608 certified, and is your company licensed in this city?

Dispatcher: Yes to both. I can give you our license number.
